Are Plantation Window Shutters blackout?

People often ask if window shutters are blackout or just how much light do they keep out.
So are window shutters blackout?
The simple answer is no, they are not. Shutters are pretty good and will blockout a substantial amount of light. around 80 to 90% darkness but no, they are not blackout.

You can see in the picture that they are not full blackout.
Larger louvres will help reduce light levels but, ff you really like the look of shutters but need your bedroom to be as dark as possible there is now another alternative.
We have a blackout window shutter & blind that will keep out 99% of light on a sunny day.
From the front it looks like a traditional window shutter but the it uses a special frame with a slot behind the shutter that we fit a honeycomb blackout blind into.
The honeycomb blinds are one of the best blackout blinds on the market, so when fitted behind your window shutter you are getting the best of both worlds. The shutter look that you wanted and you get the best blackout available.
As this is option carries a fairly hefty additional cost, we only recvommend them in exceptional circumstances, for example, night workers.
